The Daily Echo: “Invictus” Who is the Captain of your Soul? June 11, 2015

One of the most inspiring poems I have ever read was written by a man struck down in his prime with a debilitative disease. After losing one of his legs and told the other needed to come off he penned the words of that poem. I often wonder if William Ernest Henley would have ever been able to find those triumphant words without suffering from the pains and frustration of his circumstances. I believe each of us has and “Invictus” within all of us. Will it take a tragedy or misfortune for us to get it out? The human spirit seems so heroic when faced with turmoil and misfortune. Why wait for the disasters of life to bring our very best out? We can all choose this day to be better and do better.
