I was fortunate to watch a short film about African Elephants yesterday. This program showed how removing young bull elephants from there “fathers” or other Adult males caused a horrible tradegy. These new young bulls out on there own with no one to mentor or curtail there behavior began to kill the white Rhino. For weeks the park’s thought this to be pouchers until they put hideaway cameras up and saw this horrible scene. After bring Adult Bull’s back into this group this behavior stopped instantly and the young Bull’s began to act normal and appropriate. Does this have any correlation to our society today? I believe it is a huge part of the story. Many young men are raised by only their mother. Despite all she does to not only support her family financially and do all she can she can never be their father. These boys like all boys need fathers who didn’t just donate the sperm. It’s time for fathers to step up and be the father these boys deserve. They need our love, support, and yes discipline. I hope that the message today will cause all of us to re-think how we are fullfilling our roles and parents, especially you fathers.
