The Daily Echo: Are you resisting change? June 10, 2014

June 10, 2014

This morning while beginning to train a new dog I saw the analogy that we all have to change. As I watched this 12 week old puppy resisting the leash and collar it made me realize how difficult change can be for all of us. For this puppy within 10 minutes he had stopped his crying and convulsions of backflips to get this off him. He finally realized that it did no good to fight it anymore. All the strength he could muster wasn’t going to get this off of him. When he finally succumbed to the fact that he needed to change his behavior and all would be good he did. Wouldn’t it be easier if we had a collar on us to make big changes. I thought how great it could be if within 10 minutes I could change behaviors or develop new habits. Unfortunately for all of us change requires effort. Sometimes a lot of effort to get the results we want in life. If you find yourself fighting these changes understand this is a good thing. You are a “alpha” human and change can be difficult but you also have that ability to make those changes. If you find yourself fighting this, think of the dog analogy. Know that we train dogs for their own protection and so they can have a happier and healthier life. The changes you desire will be tough and you will be resistant but you will have enjoy a much happier and healthier life as you commit to these changes.
